Dubai is the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates and the capital of the Emirate of Dubai. Located along a historic creek on the southeastern coast of the Persian Gulf, the city is home to around 4 million residents, with expatriates making up approximately 92% of the population. The wider metropolitan area, including Sharjah and Ajman, is one of the largest urban regions in the Middle East.

Originally founded in the early 18th century as a pearling and fishing settlement, Dubai evolved into a major trade hub after becoming a free port in 1901. While oil supported early growth, the city successfully diversified its economy, with oil now contributing less than 1% of GDP.

Since the 1990s, Dubai has transformed into a global city known for its iconic skyline, including the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Large-scale land reclamation and luxury real estate developments have reshaped its coastline and global image.

Today, Dubai’s economy is driven by trade, tourism, aviation, financial services, and real estate. It is home to the Dubai International Financial Centre, a leading global financial hub, and the Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest airport for international passengers. Consistently ranked among the most visited cities worldwide, Dubai stands as a symbol of innovation, connectivity, and global ambition.
